Creativity in Crisis: The Effects of the Pandemic on Performing Arts

How will art survive in a time of public health and economic crisis? This project seeks to document the impact of COVID-19 on artists and performing arts organizations around the country. It will explore the future of performance in the United States in a post-COVID world and looking at the question of whether or not it will survive (and if so, how). Specifically, I will compare and contrast the concerns of a national institution – specifically the Kennedy Center, where I interned last year – with those of local Worcester and Holy Cross organizations. I am interviewing artists, administrators, composers, and performers about their experiences during the pandemic and their thoughts on how art has changed in response to COVID-19.
